We specialize in tree surveys and inventories performed by a Certified Arborist, it include the tree's species, DBH (size), health condition, and recommended maintenance plan. RTEC utilizes a computerized tracking system that helps maintain the property's records. This proactive approach to tree care can save owners thousands of dollars a year.

Construction Planning & Tree Preservation
|
Construction damage is the one of the main reasons for tree decline in the urban environment. Once damage occurs, especially to roots, a chronic decline occurs and trees usually die within six (6) years. To save a damaged tree, it is important to develop a timely remedy.
We are experienced in developing preservation specifications and performing tree preservation for construction projects for commercial, residential, and government properties. Before infrastructure projects such as foundations, retaining walls, sidewalks, buildings, or homes are built, a tree's Critical Root Zone (CRZ) should be identified and protected. Tree and CRZ protection is much more effective and reliable than trying to reverse tree and root damage. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".
Every municipality has different tree preservation requirements. RTEC's certified arborist work with owners, builders, architects, and municipalities to ensure that preservation plans are effective, compliant, and reasonable.

Certain tree species may be targeted by insects or diseases, such as the Hemlock and the wooly adelgids. RTEC performs services to eradicate and maintain the mature tree's health. Insects left untreated can destroy trees rapidly. Controlling insects and disease will require a certified pesticide applicator to properly apply chemicals and treatments. The cost to replace mature trees can be expensive.

Maintenance & Care of Maturing Trees
|
Fully mature trees provide many benefits from noise abatement, absorbing excess soil moisture, creating shade, and making properties more beautiful and desirable. However, they may also lead to other problems such as lifting sidewalks and creating trip hazards.
Trees in high-use areas require inspection and maintenance to ensure that they are not a safety risk.
It is often far better and cheaper to maintain existing trees than to remove and replace established trees. RTEC's community financial projection tool the Prime-Matrix, will assess the two scenarios (maintain or remove and replace), and recommend the one most beneficial.
|
RTEC offers a unique system to identify, track, maintain and budget for present and future needs. This system helps associations create and maintain their budgets. This system allows the owners to be pro-active with tree maintenance rather than spending potentially twice as much on reactive or emergency services.

One of the misconceptions is that all green industry companies can provide proper pruning. Proper pruning is based on the ANSI A300 Standard. This standard was created to establish what and how good pruning is. Trees not pruned to this standard probably have been damaged. Tree damage once created is often permanent.
"Topping", which is removing the majority of a tree's crown, is an example of permanent damage. This practice is out of date and research shows that it is one of the main causes of tree decline and death. This type of pruning is most commonly found in areas where public awareness of tree care is low and service providers are inexperienced
An RTEC Certified Arborist will recommend to you what type of pruning your trees need.
|
Improper cuts will also damage your trees. Trees that have been improperly pruned will not heal properly and will become physically stressed. A stressed tree will attract invading insects and disease activity
Some larger wounds created by improper cuts will develop cavities. These cavities can become structural weaknesses which will be more prone to breakage or complete failure of the tree or limbs.
